Gods too are crazy about money

The temple ‘Gods’ are offered donation by followers and well-wishers irrespective of religious background. Majority of this wealth is used for social causes. Similarly celebrity ‘Gods’ are offered various incentives by state and central governments. In some cases these incentives are misutilised. In certain cases these ‘Gods’ desire incentives in the form of remission of import duty on their lavish spends too. This generally does not receive wide publicity. Recently, one such incident came to light.

Maharashtra state government had allotted a 20,000 sq. feet prime plot 33 years ago on a 60-year lease to cricket legend, Sunil Gavaskar, to develop an indoor cricket academy. (now approved for Multi Facilities Sports Centre) Since he failed to develop it till date, the state housing department issued a government resolution (GR) recently allowing the cricket legend another opportunity to develop it.

As per the GR, Gavaskar will have to give 25% of profits from the enterprise to the government. It also directs him to clear all dues owed to Mhada and the government and sign an agreement with the authority within 30 days. Once the agreement is signed, Gavaskar will need to ensure that construction work starts within a year and is completed in three years.

NPowersU Expert Opinion

In the recently concluded Tokyo Olympics 2020, the second largest populated country in the world ranked 33 in the total medal tally. In a country where Cricket is considered a ‘religion’ and its players ‘Gods’, much needs to be done in relation to sports infrastructure to promote others sports. And when these ‘Gods’ of cricket are inactive in development of sports infrastructure even after committing to the same, what can one expect out of real ‘Gods’? This is beautifully depicted in the title image.

Let’s end this week’s blog with below statement-

‘God made Man and Woman; then rested.

God made human Gods; now he is being tested’
